Buyer's Guide to Pallets

Everything you need to know about grades, sizes, and materials before making a purchase.

Understanding Pallet Grades

Grade A (Premium / #1)

Ideally suited for automated systems and high-profile shipments. These pallets have no visible repairs on the stringers.

  • Consistent deck board spacing
  • No companion stringers (plugs)
  • Clean appearance suitable for retail display

Grade B (Standard / #2)

The workhorse of the industry. Typically repaired but structurally sound. Cost-effective for warehousing and one-way shipping.

  • May contain plugs (companion stringers)
  • Chip or crack repairs visible
  • Variable deck board thickness possible

Material Types

Softwood (Pine)

Most common. Lightweight and inexpensive. Great for one-way trips.

Hardwood (Oak)

Extremely durable and heavy. Used for heavy loads and multiple trips.

Plastic / Composite

Hygienic, washable, and insect-free. Ideal for food and pharma.

International shipments require Heat Treated (HT) pallets to prevent the spread of pests. Look for the "Wheat Stamp" on prospective pallets.
